I think Shrek is more about not having to accept the role that society puts you in. Shrek wasn’t only ostracized for being “ugly” but for also being an ogre, which was a race considered to be dangerous and unruly. He learned that he didn’t have to fit that stereotype and instead broke free, learning to accept himself for who he was and not what society wanted him to be. Lord Farquad may have been made fun of for his height, but he also decided to be an ugly person on the inside, and embraced that part of himself. While Shrek learned he could be a better person despite society’s expectations, Farquad decided to he was going to conform to people’s expectations on him and never rose above people demeaning him. He was short in more ways than one.
